Rabun County water permit on the Little Tennessee

Rabun County’s permit application was submitted to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD) last week.

At this point, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has the application and will be drafting a permit soon. Once the draft permit is finished, they will send a copy to Rabun County and it will be posted for public review and comment for thirty (30) days. We are urging all of our members to make comments during this period.

In the meantime, you can review our suggested talking points in the fall 2008 issue of our newsletter by clicking through this blog.

You should also remember that by law, Rabun County must apply for the sewage discharge permit separately from the water intake permit that they will need to withdrawal water to treat and sell to customers. We expect the intake permit will be applied for later this summer and will send you information about that permit and how to comment on it when the time comes.

If you need any background information, or have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

A healthy, abundant water supply is essential to Macon and Swain County’s citizens as well as the aquatic animals that live here. Please help us make sure that the GA EPD takes all of these stakeholders into consideration as they draft this permit!
