Canoe Clean Up Event

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Join the Little Tennessee Watershed Association for their annual river clean up day from 9 am – 1 pm on Friday, August 7th, 2009.

We will launch several groups of boats on various short sections of the river for trash pick up, and volunteers will be shuttled back to their vehicles when the trip is complete.  Each section will be about a two hour float and the entire event is from 9 am to 1 pm.  Shuttles will be provided, but bring your own lunch and water.

If you are interested in participating, but do not have your own boat, a limited number of canoes and kayaks will be available free of charge courtesy of the Great Smoky Mountain Fish Camp.

This is a free event, but volunteers are asked to RSVP so that boats and partners can be arranged. For directions or to RSVP, call the Little Tennessee Watershed Association at 828-369-6402 or email info [at - replace with symbol] ltwa [dot] org.

Each year, LTWA hosts a kickoff clean up for the Big Sweep littler-free waterways initiative (www.ncbigsweep.org) that occurs in October. Last year, our members and volunteers contributed over 500 pounds of trash to the total for Macon County. Let’s make this year even better!
